Fairtrade in Preston and South Ribble

Preston was originally declared a Fairtrade city in June 2004 by the then mayor Councillor Pat Woods. Our bid was supported by local celebrity Sir Tom Finney, who joined us for Fairtrade tea in the mayor’s parlour.

In March 2008 UCLAN gained Fairtrade university status and South Ribble gained status as a Fairtrade Borough in March 2009.

Both Preston City Council and South Ribble Borough Councils are very proud of their status and the group is the body that ensures the ongoing upkeep of that status.
